Transliteration

Al-mulku yawma'idhin al-haqqu lir-rahman wa kana yawman ala al-kafirina asira

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah refers to the Day of Judgment when all sovereignty and dominion belong exclusively to Allah (ar-Rahman, the Most Merciful), and false deities and worldly powers will have no authority. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Qurtubi explain that this day will be extremely difficult and filled with hardship for the disbelievers, who will face the consequences of their rejection of Allah's signs, while it will be a day of justice and ease for the believers. The emphasis on 'al-haqq' (the truth/reality) underscores that only Allah's true dominion will remain on that Day, stripping away all illusions of power that disbelievers clung to in this world.

Revelation Context

Surah Al-Furqan is a Meccan chapter addressing the polytheists of Mecca who rejected the Quran and denied the resurrection. This ayah appears in a section emphasizing the certainty of the Day of Judgment and Allah's absolute sovereignty, serving as a warning to those who associate partners with Allah and deny His signs.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The Day of Judgment will not come until the sun rises from the West, and when it does, the people will believe in it—but that is when no soul shall benefit from its belief if it believed not before.' (Sahih Bukhari 3194). This relates to the theme of the Day when truth becomes undeniable.

Key Lesson

This ayah reminds us that worldly power and dominion are temporary illusions, and only Allah's authority is absolute and eternal; believers should live with the consciousness that true judgment belongs to Allah alone, encouraging us to align our actions with divine truth rather than pursuing fleeting worldly status.
