Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah outlines the believers' duties toward Allah and His Messenger: to have faith in them, honor and respect the Messenger, and glorify Allah through constant remembrance morning and evening. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir emphasize that tuʿazzirūh (honoring/supporting) and tuwaqqirūh (showing reverence) specifically refer to the proper respect due to the Prophet Muhammad, while tasbiḥ (glorification) is directed toward Allah alone, demonstrating the integrated nature of Islamic devotion.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah Al-Fath, revealed after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah (6 AH), addressing the believers who had accompanied the Prophet on the journey to Mecca. The surah contextually instructs the Muslim community on how to properly support the Prophet and maintain their covenant with Allah during a critical period of Islamic expansion.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'The best of you are those who have the best manners' (Sahih Bukhari 3559), reinforcing the importance of honoring and respecting the Prophet. Additionally, the Prophet emphasized constant remembrance: 'The best supplication is asking for forgiveness, and the best remembrance is saying Subḥān'Allāh' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3585).

They are the ones who disbelieved and obstructed you from al-Masjid al-Ḥarām while the offering was prevented from reaching its place of sacrifice. [This was so] that Allāh might admit to His mercy whom He willed. If they had been apart [from them], We would have punished those who disbelieved among them with painful punishment
