Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah affirms Allah's absolute sovereignty over the heavens and the earth, emphasizing His complete dominion and control over all creation. According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, the phrase 'wa-Allahu ala kulli shay'in shaheed' (and Allah is witness over all things) underscores that Allah is not only the sovereign ruler but also the omniscient observer of all deeds and actions, reinforcing His perfect knowledge and justice. This statement serves as a powerful reminder to those who doubt Allah's power or deny His divine attributes, particularly relevant to the context of those who persecuted believers in Mecca.

Revelation Context

Surah Al-Buruj is a Meccan surah revealed during a period of intense persecution of early Muslims by the Quraysh. This ayah appears near the end of the surah as a consolation and reassurance to believers that despite earthly oppression, Allah possesses absolute authority and is fully aware of all injustices being committed.

This relates to the theme of divine justice and Allah's witness over all actions. Additionally, the hadith 'Verily, Allah has prescribed ihsan (excellence) in all things' (Sahih Muslim) reflects the comprehensive nature of Allah's authority and awareness mentioned in this ayah.
