Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah refers to 'those are the companions of the right hand,' indicating the righteous believers who will be on the right side on the Day of Judgment, a position of honor and divine favor. According to classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, the 'right hand' (al-maymanah) symbolizes blessing, honor, and salvation, in contrast to those on the left hand who face punishment. This ayah concludes the surah's discussion of two types of people: those who embrace faith and righteousness, and those who reject truth and transgress.

Revelation Context

Surah Al-Balad is a Meccan chapter revealed during a period of intense opposition to the Prophet Muhammad. The surah presents a stark contrast between two paths: one of difficulty and struggle in righteousness, and another of arrogance and denial. This ayah appears at the conclusion of the surah as the resolution showing the ultimate fate of the believers.
