Tafsir (Explanation)
This ayah means 'For every piece of news/information there is a time of settlement/fulfillment, and you will soon know.' According to Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari, this refers to the inevitable fulfillment of Allah's promises and warnings—every prophecy, threat, and glad tiding will come to pass at its appointed time. The ayah reassures believers that patience is required, as the consequences of events and messages will become clear when Allah wills, and serves as a warning to disbelievers that their denial and mocking will have inevitable consequences.
Revelation Context
This ayah appears in the context of Surah Al-An'am, which addresses the Meccan polytheists' rejection of the Prophet Muhammad and their mockery of the Quranic message. The ayah responds to their skepticism and demands for immediate punishment or proof, reminding them that everything happens according to Allah's perfect timing and plan.
Related Hadiths
