قُتِلَ ٱلْخَرَّٰصُونَ 10

Translations

Destroyed are the misinformers

Transliteration

Qutila al-kharrasun

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah invokes a curse upon 'al-kharrasun' (the liars, conjecturers, or those who speak without knowledge). Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari interpret this as a condemnation of those who fabricate lies about Allah and His religion, particularly those who deny the resurrection and the Quran's authenticity. The phrase emphasizes Allah's strong displeasure with those who engage in baseless speculation and false claims against divine truth.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears at the beginning of Surah Adh-Dhariyat, which addresses the denial of the Day of Judgment and the resurrection. The surah opens with an oath sworn by the winds, then immediately condemns those who reject these truths through conjecture and lies, setting the thematic foundation for the surah's arguments about accountability and divine justice.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever speaks about the Quran without knowledge, let him take his seat in Hellfire' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 2945). Additionally, the Prophet warned against speaking about religion without knowledge, which relates to the condemnation of al-kharrasun in this ayah.

Key Lesson

This ayah reminds believers to avoid making unfounded claims about Allah's religion and to reject baseless speculation about matters of faith. Truthfulness and knowledge-based discourse are essential in religious matters, and those who deliberately spread falsehoods face severe divine displeasure.
