Transliteration

Wa-ammā bi-ni'mati rabbika fa-ḥaddith

Tafsir (Explanation)

This ayah commands the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to proclaim and mention the blessings and favors of his Lord. Classical scholars like Ibn Kathir and Al-Tabari explain this as an instruction to testify to Allah's grace, both as a form of gratitude and as a means of calling people to recognize divine favor. The imperative 'ḥaddith' (speak/narrate) encompasses sharing one's blessings with others as a witness to God's mercy, which strengthens faith and invites others toward monotheism.

Revelation Context

This ayah appears in Surah Ad-Duhaa, which was revealed during a period when the Prophet experienced a temporary cessation of revelations (fatra). The surah serves to console him by reminding him of Allah's continuous blessings and favor. This ayah specifically instructs him to acknowledge and communicate these blessings, transforming a period of anxiety into an opportunity for gratitude and witness.

Related Hadiths

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'The best of you are those who are best to their families, and I am the best among you to my family' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3895). Additionally, the hadith 'Whoever is grateful for blessings will have them increased' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 2517) relates thematically to acknowledging and speaking of divine favors.
