Description

The Arabic root و-س-ن (w-s-n) conveys the meaning of drowsiness, light sleep, or the initial stages of slumber that precede deep sleep. In the Quran, it appears most notably in Ayat al-Kursi (2:255) where it emphasizes Allah's perfect and eternal vigilance by stating that neither wasnah (slumber) nor sleep overtakes Him. This negation underscores the absolute transcendence of Allah, affirming that He requires no rest and maintains constant, unwavering watchfulness over His creation, in contrast to all created beings who experience fatigue and the need for sleep.
