Description
The Arabic root ق-ر-ش (q-r-sh) refers to gathering, collecting, or earning/acquiring, and is most famously associated with the Quraysh tribe, the dominant merchant tribe of Mecca to which Prophet Muhammad belonged. In the Quran, it appears in Surah Al-Quraysh (106:1), which references this tribe and their winter and summer trade journeys that brought them wealth and security. The significance lies in reminding the Quraysh of Allah's favor upon them through their prosperous trading caravans and the security of the Sacred House (Kaaba) in their midst, calling them to be grateful and worship the One who provided these blessings.
