The Arabic root ن-ه-ي (n-h-y) carries the core meaning of forbidding, restraining, or reaching an endpoint/finality. In Quranic usage, it encompasses both the concept of prohibition (forbidding evil or harmful actions) and the idea of ultimate intelligence or sound judgment that comes from understanding limits and boundaries.
